Every Széchenyi Bath day ticket includes either a locker or a private changing cabin, and you choose at the moment you buy. Below: official 2026 prices, what each option gets you, when booking ahead helps, and what to bring.

Planning a trip? Start with our Hungary country guide and the Budapest city guide.

The short answer

  1. Locker or cabin? A locker is enough if you arrive with a small bag. Take a cabin if you have a suitcase or want to change in private. On the official shop, a cabin cost EUR 3 more than a locker on every date we checked on 20 October 2026.
  2. Book ahead? Not required, but advised. The baths' FAQ says online tickets "are treated as priority in case of a full-house", and the price is the same online and at the desk (Széchenyi Bath FAQ).
  3. Official shop or a reseller? The official shop is cheaper but non-refundable. Tiqets costs more and lets you cancel until the day before. Details in section 4.

Ticket types and 2026 prices

The bath is run by Budapest Spas cPlc. (Budapest Gyógyfürdői és Hévizei Zrt.), which also runs Gellért, Rudas and Lukács. The official price list is in forint; the English online shop (tickets.szechenyibath.hu) sells in euro and says "EUR prices may vary due to exchange rate fluctuations and peak days".

Prices as of 20 October 2026, from the official 2026 price list (HUF) and the official online shop (EUR, read for specific dates):

TicketMon–ThuFri, Sat, SunHolidays and peak season
Daily ticket, lockerHUF 13,200 / EUR 40HUF 14,800 / EUR 44HUF 15,800 / EUR 47

"Good morning Budapest" (enter by 09:00, on site only)HUF 10,500HUF 11,800 (Fridays only)Not sold

Online, Fast Track cost EUR 46–53 with a locker and EUR 49–56 with a cabin (ranges only). Cabin HUF prices are the locker price plus the HUF 1,000 cabin fee on the price list; the Hungarian-language shop lists HUF 14,200–16,800.

What counts as peak. National holidays, Easter, Pentecost and Christmas to New Year (FAQ); the opening-hours page names 18 December 2026 to 6 January 2027. The shop charged peak prices on 23–24 October 2026 (a national holiday weekend) and 21 December.

Euro or forint? At the European Central Bank rate on 20 October 2026 (EUR 1 = HUF 364.68), the weekday locker price of HUF 13,200 is about EUR 36.20, below the EUR 40 the English shop charges. At the desk you pay in forint ("Euro is not accepted"), so your card's rate and fees decide which is cheaper.

Discounts. There are no child, family, senior or half-day tickets. The Budapest Card gives 20% off the standard locker ticket, on site only, at the Steam entrance near the M1 metro (FAQ).

Locker or cabin: the real differences

  • Locker. "The locker is small, it is enough for a backpack" (FAQ). It sits in a shared changing area; the Fast Track ticket pages describe it as a locker in the men's or women's changing room.
  • Cabin. A "private, lockable changing cabin (Left Luggage)" that you keep all day and lock with your wristband (official shop). The FAQ says cabins "can store bigger pieces of luggage and suitcases", so take one if you arrive with luggage.
  • Sharing a cabin. The FAQ suggests that two or more people buy just one cabin ticket and give everyone else a locker ticket: "No need to purchase two cabins, unless you prefer it." The FAQ wording is unclear on the details, so confirm at the desk before you rely on it.
  • Valuables. Neither option is a safe. Budapest Spas says it "takes responsibility only for the items left in the safety deposits" (Policy Statement). A safe costs HUF 1,100 on the Széchenyi price list (as of 20 October 2026).

Our view: with a day bag, the locker is fine and saves EUR 3 online (HUF 1,000 at the desk). With luggage, valuables you would rather not carry, or a group that wants somewhere private to change, buy one cabin ticket for the group.

Do you need to book in advance?

You don't have to. The FAQ "highly" advises it; the online shop says: "If online tickets are sold out, tickets may still be purchased on-site, subject to availability."

How the official tickets work.

  • Daily tickets are not timed. You can enter at any time during opening hours and stay until closing (FAQ).
  • Fast Track lets you skip the queue at the Spa entrance on Kós Károly sétány. On 20 October 2026 the shop sold only morning Fast Track tickets ("until 11:00"). The FAQ also describes an afternoon slot from 15:00.
  • Sales window. You can book 180 days ahead, according to the FAQ. On 20 October 2026 the shop listed dates "through April 2027".
  • No refunds. At checkout you accept that "tickets purchased are non-refundable, and date changes are not possible after the purchase." Tickets are not personal, so you can pass yours on to someone else.
  • On arrival you swap your QR code for a wristband or proxy watch. Download the ticket before you arrive: the FAQ warns that a booking number alone is not enough, "especially when you purchase your tickets from any partner company".

Official shop vs Tiqets. Tiqets sells "Széchenyi Spa: Full Day Entry Ticket" with the same choice of "Entrance + Locker" or "Entrance + Private Cabin". On 20 October 2026, prices shown in USD were (euro at the ECB rate of EUR 1 = USD 1.1215):

DateOfficial lockerTiqets lockerOfficial cabinTiqets cabin
Wed 21 Oct 2026EUR 40USD 51.66 (about EUR 46)EUR 43USD 58.40 (about EUR 52)
Tue 27 Oct 2026EUR 40USD 50.62 (about EUR 45)EUR 43USD 57.23 (about EUR 51)
Sat 31 Oct 2026EUR 44USD 57.23 (about EUR 51)EUR 47USD 66.03 (about EUR 59)

So Tiqets cost about EUR 5–12 more per person. What that buys is flexibility: Tiqets states "Cancellation is possible until 11:59 PM on the day before your visit" and the same deadline for rescheduling. If your Budapest dates could still change, the Tiqets full-day ticket (opens Tiqets in a new tab) is the option you can cancel. If your dates are fixed, the official shop is cheaper. Tiqets showed no availability on 23–25 October 2026, when the official shop was still selling, and its page lists hours (9:00–18:00) that do not match the official ones.

Skip Tiqets' "Széchenyi Spa: Entry + Palm House with Snack and Cocktail" (from USD 144.87, about EUR 129, non-refundable). The Palm House (Pálmaház) is the bath's Dayspalm lounge, and the official Dayspalm packages cost EUR 87–123 (as of 20 October 2026).

Opening hours and the best time to go

Official hours as of 20 October 2026 (opening hours):

Friday07:00–22:0007:00–21:40
Saturday–Sunday08:00–20:0008:00–19:40

Last entry and cash desks close 1 hour before closing. Holidays follow weekend hours. Listed exceptions: 23 October 2026, 08:00–22:00; 18 December 2026 to 6 January 2027, opening at 08:00. The page warns that "opening times may vary slightly."

When to go. The baths publish no crowd data, so we cannot name a quiet hour. What is known:

  • Early on weekdays. The cheapest ticket, "Good morning Budapest", is sold only on site, Monday to Friday, and you must buy it and enter by 09:00. You can then stay all day.
  • Friday evenings. "Budapest Evening Bathing" runs every Friday, 19:00–22:00, for EUR 30. It includes a locker (cabin upgrade on site) and, in October 2026, poolside concerts (official offer).
  • Saturday nights are a party. Sparty runs every Saturday from February to December, and "Daytime services are not available during the party" (FAQ). Plan a daytime visit on Saturday.

Tiqets warned on 20 October 2026 that some saunas and pools were "temporarily out of order"; we could not confirm this officially, so check the bath's available services page before you go.

What to bring (nothing is rented)

With a daily ticket, the bath provides no towels, robes, slippers, swimsuits or caps, and "Rental is not available" (FAQ). You can buy them in the bath shop (prices as of 20 October 2026, price list), but not in every size:

  • Swimsuit. Swimwear only; no street clothes, gym wear or underwear in the pools. The official list allows burkinis (Tiqets says otherwise). To buy: HUF 6,300.
  • Flip-flops. "Wearing slippers is mandatory." To buy: HUF 4,200.
  • Towel. Needed in the saunas, where skin and swimwear must not touch the bench. To buy: HUF 6,900.
  • Swim cap. Required only in the outdoor 50 m lap pool, and other headwear does not count. To buy: HUF 2,100.
  • Card. The self-service machines at the main entrance take cards only; cash is accepted at the Steam entrance desks.
  • Phone with the ticket downloaded. For data in Budapest, see our Hungary eSIM guide.

You may bring food, and eat it on the terrace or in the restaurant, but no alcohol "in any quantity or packaging".

Rules worth knowing

  • Age 14 and over only. Since 1 August 2025, children under 14 may not enter, outdoor pools included, unless they have a specialist's medical certificate approved 24 hours ahead. Bring ID for teenagers; staff may ask for it (FAQ).
  • Health. People with open wounds, fever, infectious or skin diseases, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs may not use the baths (House Rules, version 1.8).
  • One entry per ticket. The daily ticket gives "only 1 entry", so you cannot pop out and come back. Keep your wristband on at all times; staff may escort you out without it.
  • Photos. The House Rules require written permission for commercial photography or filming. We found no official rule on personal photos in the pool areas. Phones and smart watches are not allowed in the saunas without the bath manager's approval.
  • Accessibility. The building "is not fully barrier free". Ask staff on arrival for a cabin large enough for a wheelchair.

Getting there. Take the M1 metro to Széchenyi fürdő, 9 minutes from Vörösmarty tér, according to BKK's M1 timetable. The main entrance is at Állatkerti körút 9–11, opposite the Circus.
